...from brown-red to a typical shade of green
copper
Copper is highly valued as a building material for roofs and facades, primarily due to its attractive appearance. The metal initially has a reddish-golden hue, but weathering causes a patina to form and the color changes from brown-red to a typical green tone.
The surface patina protects the underlying material from corrosion. Although copper is an expensive material, its properties make it very durable and virtually maintenance-free. As historic buildings prove, copper roofs last for several generations.
